Filmmaker Statement
on the use of
iPhone technology
As independent micro-budget filmmakers, we sought the quickest, most feasible path towards creating our debut feature. We used the tools and resources at our disposal which include the iPhone 13 ProMax and 14 to film, edit, and research. Rechargeable batteries in smartphones, tablets, and many other products are powered by cobalt. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, cobalt is extracted by artisanal miners and child labor in unsafe conditions for extremely low wages. It is our hope that the accessibility of quality cameras in the pocket of the next generation of filmmakers is not at the cost of the lives and dignity of the people in the DRC. We believe in a world cinema community that sheds light on injustices and opens a dialogue for lasting, structural change that is equitable for all.
